Subject: Re: Using my soundcard as a sine wave generator

I had first told people in this forum about CoolEdit. I had it for about four to five years but in a shareware version. I forgot that I had Cool Edit and I didn't know how to create waveforms with it. About a week ago I used it to measure my speakers specs. It takes a long time to completely measure the speaker's specs, about 30 minutes to an hour. It was well worth it.

I have a page on my web site on how to measure speaker's specs. In that page I explain how to use Cool Edit for the generator. Other equipment is a digital True RMS multimeter, two resistors, a sound card, some hook up wire, and about an hour of your time. My setup is very cheap than a woofer tester, but it takes a long time. It is about $70 to $80 for my setup.

I'm half way done with it, but I upload it to my web site any way. People can look at it and buy the components for this setup. If they are interested in it they will go to my site again or get a book that I got this setup from. I got this book from Radio Shack's "Advance Speaker Systems".

I learned from this setup is that by adding weight to the cone increases the Qts and decreases the Fs. This might be a good hint on designing those dipole designs. The weight I used is 5 cents or a nickel in US funds for this setup. A nickel is about 5 grams so you need about 20 to 30 cents in this setup.

You might use a 12 inch SHIVA and put more weight to the cone. This will increase the Qts and decrease the Fs. For the weight, clay that you use for tuning PRs might be good but I don't know.
