Subject: Altec Lansing- Dell subs

Just been given a faulty Altec Lansing -Dell made subwoofer unit.
It is meant to be used as the central bit of a 5+1 system but something has been toasted on one of the boards.
The box is really strong, the speakers inside are heavy and everything looks very well built. I wonder if it's a good idea to strip everything else and turn the thing into a straight-forward subwoofer unit to be used as an addition to a receiver + 2 loudspeaker setting.
