The Blastoramas (with a subwoofer) should work for small gatherings. It's basically what I use them for most of the time now (though I am on to the V2 version of the design). 75% of the time I power them off the amps in my car, which in turn run off the car's 12V battery. In my case, bass is provided via my POC3 subwoofer, which is the weakest point in the link, being only a 12" driver with 5mm Xmax. Were I to do it again, I'd probably opt for something like the Eminence Kappalite 4 Ohm 12" in a TH. Its lower impedance and greater Xmax should allow for quite a bit more output off a 12V supply.
