Subject: Newbie needs help

I am not an audiophile and know next to nothing
about speaker design and building, but I'm OK with
wood working. I just want better sound on my TV. I
have a ZVOX 555 soundbase that improved my TV sound,
but I wanted more bass. I bought a Polk PSW-10
subwoofer from Amazon and sent it back because it
sounded terrible.

I would like to build a powered sealed-box
downfiring subwoofer using one 8" Peerless 830667
subwoofer as the driver. I calculated the %sag
using the Parts Express formula and it was 1.7%
which would work for a downfiring design. I want
downfiring because I think I can make it look less
like a subwoofer, maybe more like a plant stand?

Here is my question. Can I simply build a box using
the optimum cabinet size as provided by Parts
Express? I'm assuming I have to account for the
displacement of the speaker and amplifier
components. Please let me know if you think this is
a bad idea and maybe provide some insight or
guidance if you'd like.

Thank you,

Walt
