Ported or sealed |

Hey everyone, I have an old Sony sub-woofer (50 watts) and it is pretty much blown. Growls and grumbles a lot. We have a bigger room than it used to be in so it needs to be more powerful than a 50. I have decided to build my own. I am thinking the Bash 300W plate amp and not entirely sure about the driver (suggestions would be nice). It seems no one really explains how to match your driver and amp to a box. Any suggestions? I intend to grab some of the spreadsheets on this site to start with. This sub-woofer is for my home theater.
Should I go with ported or sealed?. Which would be better for a HT? I can build either. I haven't found any site that tells you how to choose. My old sub is ported and I am guessing that is the design you want for HT.
I just need help in figuring out how to decide what driver (I am wanting to go with a 12", possibly 300-400 Watts), and then how to match the box to the driver.
I am not tied to anything, I just want to get started because my sub sounds awful. Moderated By: brian@diysubwoofers.org
