Building a subwoofer |

I have two old Fisher brand speakers. Each have one 15" sub and a tweeter held in a 4'6"tall-2'x2'6" box. I recently replaced these speakers with some newer Infinity's but am lacking a subwoofer for the low-end frequencies. Would it be possible to combine the speakers by putting the two 15" subs in one box then connect them to the "sub" port on the receiver? one the the problems i have found with this idea is that there is no power from the receiver to the sub, so would I need a separate power source? and if so, how would i go about making that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
