a port using thick MDF material will use up more internal volume than a thin walled drain pipe.
That will require a bigger box to maintain the same internal volume. That equals more weight, the weight of the bigger box and the weight of the thicker material.

It will be more economic to buy a short length of drain pipe of suitable diameter. You might be pro-active and just ask a plumber for an offcut.

The larger the diameter of the port the longer it must be to obtain the same tuning frequency.
A large diameter port can quite quickly become just as voluminous as the box itself. Fit the smallest diameter port that the driver displacement needs at the highest SPLs you are likely to listen at.
