many drivers are designed to move in the horizontal direction only.
Check if your driver is suitable for vertical movement.

The port must be at least one diameter, preferably >=1.5 port diameters away from the back of the driver cone.

All bass frequencies are omnidirectional. They transmit in all direction from the source.
Moving the driver to face the back only increases the distance to the listener and decreases the distance to the reflector.
