How to connect a Subwoofer to the car stereo? |

Hey guys, so I am handy with tools and iron, though I know close to nothing about speakers and all that tecnical jargon. Basically, I dont need something sophisticated, I want to reuse the subwoofer speaker from an old 5.1 home theatre system that I have laying around, just to give a little boost to my car system. so, Im not too worried about the layout of the sub box, etc, just imagine, I made an enclosure, I have the speaker set in there... now what? my stereo already has settings for separating some frequencies for the subwoofer, so I imagine its just running the cables from the back of the stereo to the sub... or I could be fantasizing.. can someone set me on the right path? do I need anything in particular between the stereo and the subwoofer?
