Subject: Re: dual 8" PPSL car sub

Hello Brian,
I am familiar with the Autotuba horn as well as the tapped horn designs that use the MCM 55-2421 and I may well end up using one of them. I like the efficiency of those designs as well as the lower distortion but they're a little big and I'm just investigating smaller boxes as an option.
I may as well see how small and low cost I can keep this project. I have a mini van/suv and a 450w amp. If I go with a vented box, a pair of 55-2421 may occasionally be pushed fairly hard. Thus, I am interested in the PPsl design to clean up some distortion.
The 55-2421 likes a small box and I had intended on using a slot vent about 9 x 3/4 x 18 that wraps around the side and back of the box. WINISD seems to be ok with this idea. If I put a pair of these boxes together with the driver arrangements for PPSL I may end up with a total box volume of about 2 liters or less, which is about 1/3 smaller than a TH and almost half the size of an autotuba. I'm hoping to use cabin gain below 50hz to bring up the lower frequencies.
Also with a cleaner sound I may need all of the 240W available to bring up the "perceived volume".
As this is my first auto sub, I'm still learning as I go through this project.
thanks, Greg
