"what does a boat mounted woofer do to a sub? ;) "

Sometimes it gets it wet and ruins it...

For that reason a 4th or 6th order bandpass makes sense, but boats don't have much space to spare sometimes.

A good choice of where to place the sub in the boat takes care of the water issue, so any enclosure will work.

You obviously won't have cabin gain, so think like you are putting a sub in a convertible.
