Subject: Subwoofer definition for noob

Hi, would really appreciate some help. I want to understand how a particular type of subwoofer works. To start with I need to know the system's proper name. The system is where you have a long square box enclosure with an upside down V shape of boards effectively creating two equal volume chambers in the enclosure under the driver. The port is slot along the ridge of the V directly under the driver width. The V shape runs from the corner of the enclosure to almost directly under the center line of the driver.

Looking side-on to a vertically standing speaker system (with the driver firing up to the ceiling and the port firing down to the floor) it might appear as:

|--| driver
|/\| enclosure

Can someone please tell this type of system's proper name and perhaps point me in the right direction to research and define how it works?

Thanks!

Chuck.
