Subject: help please, how to connect a passive sub to mixer/active speakers!?

I have some mackie srm450 active speakers which connect to the xlr
outputs of my ttm57 2 channel mixer. They sound great and I know
they have built in active crossovers, time correction, etc. and require
nothing at all, EXCEPT maybe some powerful low end bass to make the
party sound even better!!! How can I connect/add an amplifier and sub
to this system for an increase in overall sound quality and
performance?

So I decided to build a subwoofer enclosure. It is two 10" drivers in a
well designed enclosure. I have gained a fair understanding of what I
will want in an amp- no problem. The problem is, I do not understand
or have a clue on how to send the low freq's only, to the amplifier and
sub!!!! I wish there was a subwoofer output on this mixer, but hey
there is not.
ANY IDEAS at all on the cheapest method of connecting an amp and
sub enclosure to my current setup?

I dont know if I should get an active 3 way or 2 way crossover
processor, or a passive crossover, or what. If I need a passive
crossover, which does seem to be the least expensive way, should I be
looking at a high, mid, or low crossover- or maybe even a bandpass
filter? Im giving myself a headache. I will continue research after I post
this because I am serious about making this happen.

Thank you for your time.
