simple diy home theater sub |

Sorry if this is a repeat. I am building a simple sub using a Cerwin Vega woofer. I have a nice box to put it in, and it will be driven by a carver amp's speaker output that is expecting an 8 ohm load, although I think it will be fine with a 4 ohm load. Originally, I planned to use a Tannoy driver, but when I measured its resistance, it was an open circuit- blown voice coil I guess. Anyway, the Tannoy had one set of connector leads. The Cerwin Vega I have now has 2 sets of leads. I'm guessing that it was a woofer driver from a large 2-way speaker. My questions are: 1. will I damage the 4 ohm driver if I hook it up to an amp directly? and 2. How do I hook up a 2-lead output to the 4 leads of the driver (must I have some type of cross-over)? Thanks, and sorry if my questions seem silly...
