15" SW Bracing |

OK, I have bitten off a lot and as a newbie I could use some help. I am designing an enclosure for 15" Dayton Titanic III sub (Qts 0.38 Vas 7.8ft cubed Fs 19.93 Hz Re 3.68 Hz Xmax 0.75 in Sd 113 in squared). This is what the parts express guy recommended, but when I used WinISD 0.44 (tried the pro version but it constantly gave me error messages) the volume was 6.4 cub. ft for my ported system!? My ignorance for buying something so large, but now I have an interesting woodworking project. I plan on using a square port (1.5"lx 15"w x 13.5"d.) I will be using this for home theater although I suspect my pre-teens are soon going to test it very loudly when I leave the house. I have a somewhatlarge family room (23"x27"). My planned dimensions are 45"h x19"w x17"d. My material is going to be 1" cabinet grade plywood (because I had the material in the shop already). Is horizontal bracing enough or do I need some vertical braces? I know it needs to be asymmetrical. Can there be too much bracing? Will it restrict the sound waves? Has anyone used pocket screws and glue? Is thick carpet foam from Home Depot OK to line it? This is a fun project because it combines two of my favorite things; physics and woodworking. Any advice would be appreciated. Moderated By: brian@diysubwoofers.org
