Subject: subwoofer lowering frequency

Hi ,
Usualy smaller (tower) speakers have smaller box, but frequency is the same as biger speaker`s .1 What happens if I replace in my sub 12`` speaker to 10`` ?
Formula says only box size and port lenth matters.
2. Ineed to lower from 32Hz to 20, can I make port L or U shape and long (27`` according to formula), for this size box.
3.Does really low end totaly depends on port lenth ? Sound comes out directly from speaker and port is like vent to ease speaker`s excursion and maybe, produces some little sound. In this case iportant thinh what direction port fires. If it back or down firing, the sound should just fade up.
