I think that the majority of the contemporary drivers are incapable of performing satisfactory and we sacrifice definition for output. An idealized woofer will have infinite-baffle and will not work near it's resonance. For me such woofer doesn't exist or isn't affordable.
A sealed has a resonance in it's working range as a side-effect because of limitations(can't create infinite baffle or other reasons).
One can build a wrong box size for a sealed and with equalization and lots of power get the same low end extension while if ported is miscalculated low-end output can't be restored. That's the resonance dependence I meant.
I hardly remember reading about tweeters who employed a vent leading to a transmission-line structure behind the magnet and it's purpose was to cancel resonance occurring in the dustcap - polepiece compartment.I think that's the reason why some speakers don't have a dustcap.
