i don't think of dual-chamber ported as a variety but as a necessity: when designing a ported system one determines the maximum SPL by not reaching critical excursion.it's the ripple above tuning frequency when the port is out of phase with the woofer that limits the system.the surface of the figure enclosed by the cone excursion curve might stay the same but if we can distribute it more evenly so peak excursions vanish then more performance is possible without the woofer getting damaged or nonlinear. i believe some major research effort should be directed that way.the same is with 8th order bandpass: in terms of efficiency it adds lossesto the 6th order but that third chamber creates an extra ripple further dividing the main ripple so power input can be increased.this flexibility might be used for reduction of box volume.
