OK, very generally speaking, a screen shot captures something that is currently displaying (static) on the screen; such as an enclosure diagram, a response graph, a column of specs for a driver, or the results of a calculation page.
Using the mouse, a virtual picture frame can be made to enclose around relevant material. It could be the whole page, or just a small part of it. Once you copy it, the computer will hold it, waiting for you to put it somewhere, such as in an email. When the recipient (of the email) opens it, that part of what was on your computer screen (that you captured like a photograph) displays exactly as you saw it.
They call it a screen shot. A polaroid of something appearing on your screen.
