What's a bit more important than Sd (surface area = PI *(equivalent diameter/2)^2 is Vd, the peak linear displacement volume. Vd = Sd*Xmax, where Xmax is the peak linear excursion of the driver.

It's the driver's Vd that can give you the best idea of how loud the driver can get without noticeable distortion at lower frequencies.
