At this point, I agree with Brian (moderator) that there could be a bad,
(loose) connection, or even an open(ing) capacitor, (but) inside the
receiver. An A/V surround receiver has more than an average amount
of circuit wiring. Lots of in and out going on. It might well be beyond
the scope, of the average person to deal with what you will find inside.

Before you even think about removing the cover (power
disconnected!!!), you should ground the unit, to a certain earth ground,
to see how it effects normal operation. Everything might just clear up.
I wouldn't drop all concern. Most audio units operate normally, with
only a 2 prong plug, (no earth groung), because of the isolation
property of the transformer. Grounding, however, is NEVER a bad
thing. Local lightening strikes is the only possible exception.

Depending on happens when you ground the unit during normal
operation, determines what you do next.
