Subject: Re: Installing an amp in a passive 10" Paradigm sb-100 sub

Ken,

I don't understand why you are talking about woofer replacement. Is
there something wrong with the stock driver? I thought you just
wanted to upgrade your existing sub system from passive to active
amplification? Ideally, disturbing the existing system as little as
possible is the mission here. I am only suggesting attaching a
dedicated (plate) amplifier that will accept the (line out/sub out/mono)
or however its' designated, from your A/V receiver. This amp will
automatically turn itself on and off depending on signal presence. You
will be able to fine tune the x/over point to match where your mains
start rolling off and the sub rolls in. You will also be able to adjust the
gain (loudness) of the sub to suit the mix of the program material.

That is what you want to do, right?

Can you confirm the presence of a x/over, and determine the (driver)
impedance, via external visual inspection or documentation?

The more I think about it, a fixed x/over would only make sense, if the
unit was originally designed as a dedicated sub/satellite system. If
there's no x/over, likely, or if there is a by/pass switch, then the
project just became even more non invasive and ridiculously simple.
