Subject: Re: Vas parameter / counter intuitive?

Vas is stiffness.
Imagine a weight hanging from a spring.
The spring stretches to support the weight.
The amount of stretch is a measure of the stiffness of the spring.
The spring stifness is equivalent to Vas.
The weight is equivalent to cone mass.
We can take this analogy a bit further.
Double the weight hanging on the spring. It sinks down further but now pull the weight down slightly and let go. Compare the frequency of oscillation with the frequency of the lighter weight. Now change the spring to a more or less stiff one. Again the frequency changes.
We now have the equivalent of the Fs of the cone mass oscillating on the Vas stiffness.
Now hang that weight in a bucket of water and try to get it to oscillate. The air damped weight is equivalent to a very high Q driver. The water damped spring is equivalent to a very low Q driver.
Hope this helps separate some of the definitions of drivers parameters to objects that are more familiar.
