Subject: Re: car audio in PA System

You have got it wrong.
Car audio used 4ohm speakers due to the reduced output voltage available from the 12Vdc charging system. Then they went to 2ohm to try to get more volume. With this came a loss in efficiency. Now, some go to 1ohm drivers (or combinations of drivers) and the efficiency is even lower.
Finally they went to SMPS to get adequate output voltage but retained the car audio standard of very low speaker impedance.

Home audio and PA generally use 8ohm and 4ohm speaker impedances. This is higher resistance than car audio.
