Usable Mach yields ridiculously long ports |

I've got a pair of Morel MW142 5" woofers and I'm looking to do a redesign.
The problem is the EBP indicates I should be using a vented enclosure, and any port diameter I calculate in WinISD for a mach below 1 or even 1.5 gets me a port length that's well beyond the longest dimension of the box.
I don't think a curve in the port will give me much more length to play with, and I don't want the port sticking out of the box like a chimney.
Any suggestions? Thanks!!
