Well, aside from the impedance mismatch problem, you're going to need at least a 30 amp 12v power supply.
Wattage = Voltage X Amperage.
A home stereo transforms 120v down to 30 or 40 volts for the supply rails. Thus, an 8 ohm speaker isn't a problem to drive. A car audio amplifier must 'boost' a 12-14v input up to the same 30-40v to drive 8 ohm speakers, thus drawing huge amounts of current from the DC power input. Therefore it's easier to drive 4, 2, or even 1 ohm speakers (which require less voltage for a given current) with a car amp. When you drive an 8 ohm speaker from a car amplifier, you'll get about half the wattage that would go into a 4 ohm speaker.
Let's take that 30 amp supply (giving you 30x13.8 (414w DC input maximum) for perhaps a 200w car amplifier whilst leaving room for dynamic peaks. Depending on the amplifier power output, you might need as high as 100A. (1380w DC input) for perhaps 700-800w output depending on efficiency. These power supplies, which weigh in at more than 50lbs, will most likely cost you more than simply buying a home amplifier that will kick out a couple of hundred watts for your home stereo.
