Measure along the center of any curve to get the best length estimate.

None at all. In fact, I think at least one of Hsu Research's commercial subwoofer offerings has vents that extend outside of the box. What WILL change however is the "end-effect", which is dependent on how the end of the vent is terminated (on a wall, or in free air, sharp, or rounded off, etc.) Have a look at the vent calculations page for more details.
