Actually the surround usually counts for 20% or less of the compliance of the driver. It's the spider that contributes the other 80%.

Perhaps the best use for the driver would be in a sealed or 4th order BP alignment, where Vb << Vas - the compliance will then be dominated by the air spring, not by the spider.
