Subject: old subwoofer

i was wondering if a sub can be too broken in, low frequencies tends to throw the cone too far and it makes a muffled sound at low volume. when i tap the sub, it flexes extremely easy, is there any way i can return some stiffness to the surround or spider? the surround is rubber, the sub itself is in great condition, its been in a 4th order box its whole life, and is still as shiny as the day i bought it
