space. but that is a good idea..hmm i've got four seperate floor standing speakers at home that i could drag to the dorm, but then i have to find a place to put them in the dorm.. two ~2.5cu ft boxes... i'd have to be a little creative i suppose. right now i have a nice cozy little set up with two KLH AV1001 speakers, the most basic boring bookshelf speakers there are, but they do actually sound half way decent as long as i don't push bass at them too hard. they're driven by an old "Realistic 40/A" tube amp, I'd estimate 5w rms per channel out (the second part of the problem). so to replace the bookshelves with floor speakers i'd also have to find another amplifier. the sub idea seemed to be easier when i considered that it would be a self contained powered unit.

i'll think about that though, it can't be that hard to find a decent amplifier.
