If you want to go really low, take a closed design plus pole-zero compensation electronics (linkwitz filter). If you design for Qtc <=0.5., the electronic circuit will be much simpler.
You need some Xmax, of course. I did it with 15" and 9mm Xmax (one way). It goes down linear to 20 Hz.
