Subject: Tumult PR Box Redesign. Help?

URL: My subwoofer pics, etc.

Ok, Pete and other bass heads... ;) You may remember me about 5-6 months ago asking for help designing a 3 PR enclosure for my year old Tumult for a school project. I loved the results (here, & here), but I built the enclosure poorly. I didn't anticipate so much shaking & walking from the inertia of the PR's when they aren't canceled out by opposing forces. Whoops! BAD engineering on my part. Besides, the box I built was only 3/4" veneered plywood and it isn't stiff enough without copious amounts of bracing inside (I rigged some in afterwards). It's also got a structural rattle that was band-aided with the extra bracing, but it's not 100% gone at full tilt on certain resonant freq's. It's beautiful, but the design not suited for heavy PR's. :\

After progressively more expensive troubles, (Doh!, Doh!, Doh!) I decided I want to rebuild it even better.. the RIGHT way.

What would you say if I bought another Stryke Audio PR15-1015 (t/s on page) and re-designed a much more rigid, balanced 4PR enclosure? Any pros\cons of having 4 of these PR's with a single tumult instead of 3 like Pete suggested before? I think I remember Pete saying that I would have to put too much mass on them to make it sound right due to the extra SD from the 4th PR, but I'm not sure. I have bottomed out one of the PR's, which is probably why it's surround split from the 'cone', and I don't want to run into that issue again (sounded awful).

I'm thinking of about a 5.3 (ish) cube (internal, after displacement) box with 2 PR's on each side, one above the other with the driver facing forward in the middle. Clearance is great, so no problems physically getting it built. All I would need to buy is another PR15 and wait for my tumult to come back from re-coning (yes, I blew it up when it was unloaded. (Showing off + Drinking + 1.8Kw = Separated Spider from the former & a 200$ repair cost)

Does anyone have any suggestions, or any comments whatsoever? If using 4 PR's is bad, how could I balance 3 heavy PR's and 1 light cone? Even if you think of something obvious that you think I may have thought of, do share, I probably haven't thought of it. I do listen to music quite often on my stereo system, but I want it to perform very well with LFE heavy movies, (mmmm, asplosions!) so I would prefer it to be tuned deep. If anyone needs the old Tumult T/S specs, I can dig them up and post.

Thanks guys!
