The ESS Transar woofer is on the bottom. The AMT 'ribbon' device is above there. The woofer consists of a series of rigid diaphrams connected with carbon fiber rods, there is a woofer magnet and coil at either end.

No difference, I was an ESS dealer during that time frame :)
