hi there, glad to hear you getting ready to start. as far a my 12 distorting, so far iv'e got very clean, musical, and tight sounding bass ported, with good transient response and fb tuned between 20 and 21HZ. i power it from the Lab outputs on my Adcom GFP 565 preamp running flat, with no tone controls inline for music for the least distortion and most accurate and tight sound. when using for HT, i use my contour button on preamp which will boost the frequencys between 20-100 HZ up to 10db. anf i can get strong but, still clean window rattling bass along with a couch that shakes underneath me and chases the dog into the other room he he. so far, i couldn't be more pleased with mine. i think you'll be happy with yours too. i've been upgrading my plate amp also,with some pretty decent benefits. have fun, steve a
