Subject: Tempest vs. Avalanche 15 (For SPC53)

Which is better? Tough call. The Tempest has a long history. However, the Avalanche is built using licensed technology from Adire, maker of the Tempest.

From the manufacturers specs, the Tempest on the surface would be guaged as a little more rugged since it states higher power handling. Since you've already chosen the amp at 250W, that would not be an issue. The Avalanche though, with it's slightly longer xmax, will afford a slight edge in total low frequency SPL.

Then of course there is looks, and the Avalanche basket is superior in that respect.

The Avalanche is available now whereas there is a back order on the Tempest.

Your call on what you want to do. But since they'll both work very well in a 7 cubic foot, 17hz tuned ported enclosure (at equal power, both systems would be within 1dB of each other from 15Hz to 40Hz), I don't see how you can go wrong with either one.
