How did it change the sound quality? Are you hearing the dust cap rattle now? If so, you may have to pull it out, and then coat it with something that will keep it in place, as sometimes they crease and then will still rattle after being pulled out. I coat mine with a thin layer of 2 stage epoxy after I pull it out.

How far was it pushed in? If the sound quality is still bad after you fix the cap, it could have been pushed in far enough to bend the top of the voice coil, which would make the voice coil rub. If it still sounds bad after the dust cap is fixed, I would remove the dust cap and check things over a little bit. If the top of the coil is bent over, you can bend it back using your fingers.

Not sure where you are located, but you can get new dust caps at places like Parts Express.
