The 2226H has power compression of 2.5db at 300W, and 4.6db at 600W. And this is one of the best components around, so you can expect quite a lot more compression from commerical drivers, such as Tempest. Even on this unit - do the SPL calculations, less than one decible is gained going from 300W to 600W including power compression. I've included a graph below showing power compression of various pro-sound drivers:

The 2226H is up with the best of the eight woofers compared here, and the EV DL15X and TAD 1601A are amongst the worst. That TAD unit there is a lot more than what I'd expect from a pro-sound unit, but the rest show whats typical of pro woofers. Pro woofers are specifically designed for low power compression and distortion, for Tempest - I dont have any figures, but you can expect greater levels of power compression from this driver.

And you wonder why those cheap car audio manufactures boast their so-called "2000W" power handling as the "best and only" spec to look for in a woofer.....

My new main speakers which I'm half-way through using horns and large format Professional Series JBL woofers will be capable of 120db and up with minimum distortion and power compression :-)
