Subject: Box tuning for Peerless XLS 10

Hi Derek!

Yes. Net volume must be 30L, so that means its excluding driver and port.

Its OK.

Nah - driver resonance is 18.9Hz itself, these XLS ones were made to go real low. In any case, anywhere between 18.9Hz and 22Hz will be best. Essentially, we can use a 30L box and 20Hz tuning and achieve excellant results. Thats the same specifications that I've told many others who have built a Peerless sub designed by me - and I've recieved nothing but excellant feedback from them.

As stated before - this needs EQ. Thats easy to do, and a simple sallen key 2nd order filter can be used for this job. Usually people buy plate amps, and use the EQ circuit in that - but I can give you schematics for what you need to do for a seperate circuit that will work with your Crown amp.

EQ also means is port air velocity increases. The 3" port you wanted is out of the question here - 4" is the minimum that you can use. And when that is so - vent length is 75". As you can see... thats why I reccomended PRs only with this driver. The Peerless website's box ignores EQ - and they've designed for a target of 105db at 25Hz. What they havn't pointed out is that its 7db down at this point, and hence, the EQ is needed. I reccomend 3.5db at 25Hz. In this box, its flat to about 22Hz in-room measured.

How powerful is the crown amplifier into a single bridged channel? Or if it cant be bridged, how much is it in stereo operation? Crown is a prosound amplifier; can it take unbalanced connections as well? Or just balanced? (XLR). This will dictate some of the parts in the EQ circuit.

Adrian
