Subject: building new box for very old jcpenny stereo need hlp!

i have this old stereo and i saw that it had cut out for two 5 1/2 speakers but only one is installed, this stereo, only 15 watts gives me good sq and ok bass, i was wandering if i build the same size box but with no large opening would it sound better and louder(bass) and should i leave it sealed or ported if ported what size port i dont have any specs all i know its from jcpenny and its 15 watts and 8 ohms each tower has a tweeter and mid or sub,
