Subject: Stryke AV12 wired to 1100 watts amp ?

URL: My audio page

I am interested in the AV12 subwoofer from Stryke Audio (or maybe the AV15). Both have a 23mm x-max, but the low efficiency prevents them from reaching full x-max with their rated power handling of 500 watts. (http://www.stryke.com/AVseries.html)

I have a class D amplifier that can power it withmore than that, maybe 1100 watts RMS. This would be sufficient to reach x-max at least on music peaks. But I wonder if this 500 watts PE rating from AV12 refers to 2 hour test with white/pink noise or if it's a musical power rating estimate.

Testing musics with the most intense and constant bass in Sound Forge (applying proper lowpass), I noted their dB mag between peak and RMS power was always bigger than 8 dB. A sine wave has a 3 dB mag. That indicates music gives a 5 dB for headroom (3x power). So, theorically, if the AV12 supports 500 watts of pure sine waves bass (1000 watts peaks), it would also support music with 1500 watts (3000 watts peaks).

Has anyone powered a AV12 with a 1000+ watts amplifier ? Has anyone burned one AV12 (or got close to) ?
