Don't be so hard on the poor misunderstood TL! :-) They (genrally) have shallower roll-off, better group delay and lower distortion than ported boxes it's the way forward for very deep bass! The driver you have will be fine in a TL. In addition to the excellent link Mike mentioned www.t-linspeakers.org has some useful design info and tips on building. If you want proof of the deep bass have a look at the response diagrams on my site www.btinternet.com/~spurlash (click on "bass pages") Flat to within 1/4dB from 80Hz to 21Hz. F3 at 15Hz in an anechoic environment. All with efficiency of over 97dB/W @ 1m
Your only problem with a TL in a car will be that it will want a lot of space. You shouldn't need to tune as low as you would a ported box because the roll-off is much shallower and cabin gain will boost the bottom end anyway. With quite heavy stuffing in the line you should be able to keep it to a reasonable size.
