Subject: Re: sound quality of ported vs sealed boxes |

although what each of perceives as quality varies, generally a properly designed and built ported enclosure can sound just as good as a properly designed and built sealed enclosure - assuming that the driver in question will work well in both types of enclosures. you have to take into account that some drivers are more suited to a certain type of enclosure, and thus may yield poor results if you use it a different type of enclosure. I prefer sealed enclosures over vented (for car use) for two of the reasons you stated and a few others: -sealed boxes are easy to design -sealed boxes are easy to build -sealed boxes take up less space -sealed boxes have more control over cone motion below the tuning frequency -sealed boxes just sound better to me (this may be in my head, but i just prefer the sound more)
