Having a larger ground wire allows greater return flow. Before it was like trying to pump 1000gal of water/min through a drinking straw, now you are pumping the same ammount through a 4" pipe, better flow. That is why the ground should be as large as you can accomodate. Your amps will probably perform better now. Did you check your connections at your battery to be clean and tight? You stated this problem started when you added a ground, maybe you disturbed the connection at the battery? I would also suggest you get a digital volt meter and check the voltage at different points like: the batt, the amp, the fuse on your power wire, etc to make sure you don't have a voltage drop at some point in your stereo's electrical system. Do this while the stereo is running. Also check those ground points to be clean, tight, and solid! One other thought how old is your batt? It may be time to replace it, Sears has many great deals on very good batts. You may also want to have your alternator tested, many automotive parts stores will test at no charge, but you have to remove it from your car yourself. Another thing that may help your amps would be a capacitor. The additon of a cap may aggrivate the problem with the computer though, by changing the var flow on your elec system, causing even lower voltage at the batt.
