Dynamat Xtreme is a flexible rubber-like polymer with adhesive properties. It is not adhesive-backed, it IS an adhesive, sort of like a sheet of Gorilla Glue or super-sticky Silly Putty. While it won't make the box mechanically stiffer, it will help deaden resonances and rattles between the layers of the box that would color the sound. It is also very useful for smoothing out irregularities, such as overlapping pieces of metal, that would make it difficult to get an air-tight seal against a rigid object, such as the MDF baffle your speakers will be mounted to. Dynamat Xtreme is backed by a heavy aluminum foil, so if the fiberglass sticks to trunk metal, it should stick to this.
It's your install, you'll have to decide whether you want to cover the entire trunk basin (about $35-$50 worth od Dynamat, depending on where you purchase it from). But if you later find that something doesn't fit quite right, Dynamat is a really good and fast fix.
