I personaly like the JL Audio subs. There website gives you 3 or 4 different types of boxes to build. The most audiophile types have with cars is the cabin reinforcment from the trunk that makes the bass sound boomy and muddy. In my experience with car audio, ported boxes are the only way to go. It will give you the deep extension your looking for and provide a nice response provided it was tuned properly. My basshead days are long gone, so my favorite way to get accurate, well balanced bass is by facing the woofer to the front of the car and builing a baffle between the box and the trunk to keep the trunk from messing with the sound. If your back seat doesnt fold down, you might want to consider cutting a hole in it or in your back dash and builing a dispersion chamber for the sub. But youll want to take that thing into consideration when calcualting the box parameters.
