No the HED's, along with the now discontinued Stealth series are optimized for small sealed enclosures. The Stealth series was originally created to give Vega consumers the sealed option, but also maintain the high efficiency available from the typical Vega sub...

The results... sad. The Stealth series never took a big hold as the market quickly changed to more power, more power, more power. The Stealths held their own in their wattage class... but Rockford and other companies just had better pricing and more power. Now they have the HED's which are based on Stealth parts while utilizing the Vega series surround.

I haven't had the chance to hear the HED's... but if space is not a problem, for a couple extra bucks, you could easily get the Vega series subs.......

But no, they don't have to be ported, nor should they be ported.
