I just bought two Audiobahn 10" subs and about 300 watts worth of Audiobahn amp. I have installed subs before and done my own enclosures (based on someone else's recommendations and parameters) and feel confident this time as well.
A few questions, though.
I didn't have too much time to chat with my friend/stereo guy from whom I bought the stuff. I told him that I could make a box for them and mount it behind the seat facing rearward, but would like to make use of a smaller area in the trunk. He recommended that instead of using two boxes of the proper size, I could let them share a volume that is less than double the space. For instance, were talking about 1-foot boxes individually, but he said I could get away with 1.5-1.75 if I let them share the volume. - What will this do to frequency range and response? - What will this do for accuracy? efficiency?
Also, the two channel amp I have is rated (I think) at 100 x 2 and near 300 bridged at four ohms, and can handle a 2-ohm load with no problem. The subs are DVCs, 4 ohms per coil. - Should I run them stereo; one channel per sub, voice coils in parallel for 2-ohm load? My only worry with this setup in a shared volume is that since each channel may have a potentially different signal, the two subs may not work exactly together which wouldn't make the best use of a shared enclosure. - What would happen if I ran them stereo, but paralleled them by splitting the wire between the voice coils on separate subs? Instead of one channel of the amp driving both coils on one sub, it would be one channel driving the left side of each sub and the other channel driving the right side of each sub. Would the stereo signals in one driver be fighting each other for movement, or will that be better? - Is the formula for ohm load in parallel ohms divided by number of loads? I know if I run two 4-ohm loads in parallel I get a two ohm load. If I run four 4's in parallel, will I get one ohm? If my amp is one-ohm stable (doubtful, but I'll check), would it be a good idea to run it bridged with the + and - split four ways? That would take care of the stereo problem.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Curtis
