The Infocus LP-435z is the best one I have seen under $1000.

Mine was disconitued (lp-350 or Boxlight cd-555m), but you can find it for $2600 US now refurbished with warranty. It was $3800 last year new. You can also get the SVGA version cheap (lp-340b or boxlight cd-455m) I run mine with a HTPC and it is great. If you are going to do the projector, go for the home theater PC. . .what a difference!!!
