Ok... there are 2 types of x-max, point to point (p-p)and linear...

Linear excursion is how far a speaker can move one way, usually outwards, without damaging itself.

Point to Point excursion is the maximum excursion for the speaker. There is no guarantee that p-p takes into account for noises etc... and p-p excursion may not be what is called practical, but instead theoretical... especially with cheaper subs.

I've found the most reliable is linear excursion postings. And just as a side note, 2.83V if I am not mnistaken, is 2 acoustical watts.... so the figure is actually higher than a true efficiency... and by the sounds of it, might actually include the enclosure and cabin gain....
