"In other developments, the Nashville Convention Center crowd reached a fevered pitch when the Team Gates Bronco "Beast" squared off in a show-closing, Extreme 13+ spectacle against Team Pure Sound of Missouri. The Beast’s 48 10-inch Solo-Baric subs roared up to 172.3 dB during the event, but it was not enough as Pure Sound took home the 2001 title.
Hughes, an audio dealer from New Mexico, not only captured the Extreme 3-4 power class championship in his canary-yellow 1988 Chevy Astro rolling fortress, but his semifinal world-record mark of 174.4 dB took honors as the highest of the entire tournament. 2001 dB Drag Extreme 3-4 World Champion 174.6 2001 dB Drag Extreme 3-4 World Record Holder 174.4 2001 dB Drag Overall World Champion 174.6 2001 dB Drag Overall World Record Holder 174.4 2001 dB Drag Extreme Cup Winner 2001 USAC Legal Overall World Champion 2001 USAC Legal Overall World Record Holder 2001 USAC FIRST and ONLY 170 db on a calibrated B&K !!!
Mike Skaritka (Justice, IL) made the trip to Tennessee with his red 1988 Honda Civic CRX and a pair of 12-inch Solo-Baric L7 subs, and the rocky-top adventure was worth it due to a third-place finish in the Street 1-2 class. Skaritka incorporated enclosure tech data from kicker.com, and as a result his two slamming subwoofers fired a whopping 154.8 score – with just TWO Solo-Baric subs!"
